Where ya gonna eat your Food Dat?



Wayfare is your closest bet to sandwich heaven. Freret Street’s restaurant row houses the gourmet delicatessen which opened in February 2013, and has since been making happy sandwich-eaters out of many. But, it is way more than your average sandwich shop. The ambience is warm and eclectic, and you may order your food at the counter or have a seat at a table. Or the long bar looks like a perfect spot to hang out with a cheese plate, a charcuterie board and a nice glass of wine. Meats hang from an encasement in the dining room, and “WAYFARE” lit up in bulbs creates a festive setting. We opted for a table so we could sit back and take in the atmosphere, and our time looking over the menu.

Now, this was going to be tough…decisions, I mean. With sandwich choices like the Porchetta – Kurobuta pork belly, caramelized onions, salsa verde on hoagie, and a BL(fg)T – fried green tomato, kurobuta bacon, red onion, spicy mayo and sweet potato hot sauce on 7 grain, you can see why you will have to make another trip over here soon. And how does this special sandwich sound to you? The Verve: broccoli rabe, roasted red pepper, caramelized onions, oven-roasted tomatoes w/ smoked gouda, charred green onion napa slaw, tarragon aioli on ciabatta?! We drooled over all the choices, and ordered our sandwiches. Now, it’s your turn!

Wayfare is open everyday from 11am til ? Love happy hour? Head over for ½ off specialty cocktails, $3.50 draft beer, and $4 arancini & meat pies. What is an arancini, you ask? Fried risotto balls stuffed with mozzarella cheese and whatever special item they so desire that day. Today, it’s corn maque choux!
