Easter Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

5 lbs. flour (one full bag)
1 lb. butter
1 cup shortening (Crisco)
1 can evaporated milk plus enough water to make 1 quart
2 cups sugar
10 eggs, beaten
2 pkgs. dry yeast
1 Tbsp. salt

Melt butter, shortening, sugar in milk. Proof yeast and set aside. Temper eggs with milk and add to flour and salt; add yeast, then combine all in very large bowl. Let rise overnight in draft-free, warm area. Shape dough by grabbing large handfuls and rolling in flour to make braids. Bake 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

Melt butter, shortening, sugar & milk together.

 

Flour set aside in bowl while you proof your yeast.

 

After you temper eggs with milk, add to flour mixture with salt & yeast.

 

Combine all in large bowl.

 

Cover with a kitchen towel. Let rise overnight in draft-free warm area.

 

The dough has risen!

 

Shape dough by grabbing large handfuls and rolling in flour to make braids. Bake 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
